4.3 Output Ports

The Output Ports area configures and tests the four SmartSampler2 output ports. Use Control to switch an output on or off for a controlled test. Use Configuration to select the supported operating mode and, where available, set the output's PWM strength.

Typical workflow

  1. Connect to the SmartSampler2 and allow SmartConfig2 to load its settings.
  2. Confirm the connected equipment and wiring before switching an output.
  3. Open Configuration and select the required operating mode.
  4. Where supported, select a PWM strength from 0 through 10 and use the separate save action to store it.
  5. Open Control and switch the required output on or off for a controlled test.
  6. Check the reported output status where available.
  7. Return the output and configuration to the required state before starting an automated program or leaving the installation.

Output operating modes

Depending on the connected hardware and configuration, an output can be disabled, switched directly, controlled by polarity, or used for multiplexer-controlled output selection. The selected mode determines how manual commands and sampling programs operate the channel.

Where supported, each output also has a PWM strength setting from 0 through 10. Save the setting after changing it. PWM strength and output mode directly affect connected equipment.

Manual module controls

SmartConfig2 also provides manual controls for supported connected modules. A supported multiplexer module provides individual controls for six positions, including on, off, and inverted switching. Supported relay modules provide individual on and off controls for their available positions. Select the appropriate manual module address before issuing a switching command.

Program control

User-defined SmartSampler2 programs can include output-switching actions. Configure the output number and state in the program action, and use the appropriate output mode for the connected equipment. For program construction and supported actions, see Adding and configuring actions.

Safety and operating notes

  • Use only loads and wiring that comply with the verified SmartSampler2 hardware documentation.
  • Manual switching can override or conflict with an automated sampling program. Stop or suspend automated operation before testing an output manually.
  • Do not change wiring while equipment is powered.
  • Confirm that pumps, valves, and other connected equipment are in a safe state after testing.
