4.2 Input Ports

The Input area lets you select the SmartSampler2 interfaces required for a deployment. Select Input > Home to view the connector layout and enable or disable the available interfaces.

Normal workflow

  1. Connect to SmartSampler2 using the USB connection or, where configured, the wireless connection through the installed LTE telemetry module.
  2. Allow SmartConfig2 to retrieve the device settings automatically.
  3. Open Input > Home.
  4. Enable the interfaces required by the connected sensors or devices.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Open the corresponding interface page and complete its sensor or communication configuration.

Use Reload Settings only if automatic retrieval did not complete or you explicitly need to refresh the settings.

Available interface areas

  • RS-232 provides configuration and testing for supported single-ended serial devices.
  • SDI-12 provides configuration and testing for supported SDI-12 sensors.
  • Analog provides analog, pulse, and UART configuration areas. The six configurable channels can be used according to the installed hardware and selected configuration.
  • RS-485 provides serial configuration, sensor definitions, testing, and live reading controls for supported Modbus RTU devices.
  • Modules provides configuration for supported expansion hardware.

Available controls depend on the connected SmartSampler2, installed hardware, and enabled configuration. SmartSampler2 can compose sensor data from configured analog, SDI-12, RS-232, RS-485, UART, and supported module inputs.

Configure and test an interface

Open an interface button on the left side of the Input area to reach its detailed page. Configure communication parameters, sensor definitions, or channel settings as appropriate, then use that page's Save control. Where available, enable live reading or monitoring to check responses before deployment.

For example, the Analog area includes Config, Analog, Pulse, and UART sub-tabs. The Pulse page provides channel selection, pull-up and default controls, live counts, and a reset control. The UART areas support three UART interfaces where supported, with serial framing, baud rate, terminator, delimiter, variable positions, storage of variable definitions, and live monitoring.

Recorded data headers reflect the enabled interfaces and supported fields. Enable and configure only the inputs required for the deployment.
