4.2 AutoSampler

The AutoSampler8 is a compact, modular automated gas and water sampling unit designed for reliable field deployment.
It focuses on precise sample collection, flexible integration, and robust operation under harsh environmental conditions.

Key Features

8 Independent Sampling Channels

The AutoSampler8 provides eight individually addressable sampling channels, allowing sequential or condition-based sample collection within a single compact unit.

  • Each channel can be triggered independently
  • Supports structured sampling workflows (e.g., time series, multi-source sampling)
  • Enables efficient use of limited deployment space

Flexible Integration with SmartSampler2

The AutoSampler8 is designed to work seamlessly within the SmartSampler ecosystem.

Sampling can be triggered based on:

  • Time schedules
  • Sensor thresholds
  • External commands (e.g., telemetry via SmartTransmit)

This allows fully automated, event-driven sampling strategies.

Precise Fluid Handling

The system is optimized for controlled and repeatable sample collection:

  • Supports valves and tubing configurations for directed flow paths
  • Designed for consistent sample volumes across all channels

Low Cross-Contamination Design

To ensure high sample integrity:

  • Flow paths can be flushed between sampling events
  • Dedicated channels reduce cross-contamination between samples
  • Supports inline filtration depending on configuration

Modular & Expandable

The AutoSampler8 acts as a building block within larger systems:

  • Can be combined with other modules
  • Scales from simple setups to complex multi-module deployments
  • Integrates with extensions such as power expanders or telemetry units

Rugged Field Deployment

Designed for real-world environmental conditions:

  • Compact and transportable
  • Resistant to splash water and outdoor exposure
  • Suitable for long-term deployments in remote locations

System Requirements

  • SmartSampler2 (for control logic and coordination)
  • Sample containers/bags
  • Optional: sensors, telemetry modules, or additional sampler units

Typical Use Case

A typical deployment might include one AutoSampler8 connected to a SmartSampler2:

  • Sampling every 4 hours
  • Triggering additional samples based on sensor readings
  • Collecting samples from different intake lines

This enables high-resolution, event-based sampling while minimizing manual intervention.

Note

The AutoSampler8 can be combined with other SmartSampler2 components such as:

  • AquaMate modules for sealed water sampling
  • Sensors for real-time monitoring

This allows fully integrated field systems tailored to specific research needs.
