Our Story

Sometimes, we need to travel to the other side of the world to discover our future.

After graduating as a mechanical engineer, Michael moved to Australia, spending three years as a lab technician at a university, gaining new perspectives and inspiration along the way.

Make It Work!

Starting at the university, his task was simple: make the system, which existed only on a breadboard, work. The early version of iAMES was born. By then, he had already realized that many tasks in science fieldwork could be automated with cost-effective solutions.

Automate Water Sampling

This led to the next challenge: automating water sampling. With this system, water samples could be taken simultaneously from different locations with minimal manpower—only requiring someone to collect the samples and keep the batteries charged. This made it possible to collect a large number of samples, enabling high-resolution time series analysis—all while still getting a good night’s sleep. Ultimately, this led to great research papers like this or that.

Predecessor of the SmartSampler

An early version of the SmartSampler was developed. Initially, it was designed to connect various sensors, integrating them into a single platform that sent collected data to an online dashboard. Though still quite bulky, it was fully functional and has been running 24/7 at remote locations since 2020. Later, it was adapted to fit inside a buoy, allowing deployment on lakes—not just riverbanks.

An Idea Was Born

Bringing all these innovations together into one device—scalable and adaptable—the SmartSampler was born. Our reliable field companion, ready to tackle any job, day or night. Compact, waterproof, rugged, and built for expansion. Feel free to get in touch, learn more, and try one for yourself!
