4.3.3 Configuration

The Configuration tab defines the function of each output port. This tells the SmartSampler2 what type of device is connected and enables advanced extensions.

output configuration

Output Function Selection

Each output can be assigned a specific function via dropdown:

  • Disabled – Port is inactive.
  • Direct ON/OFF – Standard digital switching of a single device.
  • Extension: PolaritySwitch – Allows reversing the polarity of the connected load, for example to operate a peristaltic pump with forward and reverse direction.
  • Extension: Multiplexer – Expands one output to control up to 6 independent loads via an external extension module.
  • (Future extensions may be added as new modules become available.)

Use Cases

  • Pumps: Assign an output as Polarity Reversal to run a peristaltic pump forward/backward.
  • Valves: Use Direct ON/OFF for solenoid valves.
  • Complex loads: Connect an Extension module to one output, enabling multiple devices to be switched individually.

Save Settings

  • Press Save to apply the configuration.
  • Stored settings are persistent and used automatically during sampler operation.

Notes

  • Always match the configuration to the actual hardware connected to avoid unexpected behavior.
  • Extensions must be connected physically to the correct output port before enabling their function in software.
  • If no extension is present, keep the port set to Direct ON/OFF or Disabled.
